Maya Broman Crawford-Phillips Violin

Maya Broman Crawford-Phillips is a Swedish/British violinist currently studying at the Norwegian Academy of Music with Peter Herresthal. Her previous teachers include Akiko Ono and Boris Brovtsyn at the Yehudi Menuhin School. Maya has also benefited greatly from lessons with David Takeno and Vilde Frang.

She has been a prize-winner in several national and international competitions such as Polstjärnepriset, Øresunds solist, SIMC and the Nordic International Competition. In January 2024, as a finalist in the Polstjärnepriset, Maya performed as soloist with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. Most recently she competed in BBC’s Young Musician reaching the semi-final as one of only six instrumentalists. Maya has also performed as soloist with the Västerås Sinfonietta, Jönköping Sinfonietta, Oxford Symphony Orchestra and the North London Symphony Orchestra among others.

As a part of her participation in Voksenåsen’s Talent Programme she has performed at several festivals across Scandinavia, including the Baltic Sea Festival in Stockholm, Oslo Chamber Music Festival (in which she performed Vivaldi’s Triple Concerto with Elbjørg Hemsing) and recitals at Bergen International Festival. Maya is an avid chamber musician and has collaborated with artists such as Lawrence Power, Ashley Wass, Priya Mitchell, Hugo Ticcciati, Johan Dalene, Gareth Lubbe, Julian Arp, William Coleman and the Sacconi Quartet performing in venues such as Wigmore Hall and Kings Place. Other festivals include the West Wycombe, Wimbledon, Arctic and Wye Valley Chamber Music Festivals. She has also performed regularly with the O/Modernt Chamber Orchestra as part of their New Generation program in venues such as the Elbphilharmonie and Konzerthaus in Berlin.

Maya has attended numerous masterclasses with esteemed musicians such as Olivier Charlier, Philippe Graffin, Latica Rosa Hondenberg, Barnabas Kelemen, Isabelle van Keulen, Alissa Margulis, Alexander Sitkovetsky and Massimo Quarta. At IMS Prussia Cove she studied with Anthony Marwood and Claudio Martinez Mehner, and was subsequently invited to the Open Chamber Music sessions in September.

Maya plays a 1690 Matteo Goffriller violin on generous loan from the Aidan Woodcock Charitable Trust.
