Joel Hunter
Viola
Joel, a proud Yorkshireman, began playing the viola at age 7. After studying at Chethams School of Music and the Royal Academy of Music, he became co-principal viola with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and later principal viola with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. He has also held the position of principal viola of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra since 2005.
He has appeared as a guest principal with most of the UK orchestras and internationally with the Symphonie Orchester des Bayerischen Rundfunk, Bamberg Symphony, Oslo Philharmonic, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic and the Amsterdam Sinfonietta. As a chamber musician he has collaborated with many renowned artists and ensembles. Recent recordings include the Mozart Piano Quartets with Leif Ove Andsnes (Sony) and the Korngold Sextet (Chandos). Joel is a founding member of the Logos Chamber Group and an ARAM recipient for his contributions to music.
